It’s Tyler, the Creator’s universe inside the Louis Vuitton men’s store on Rodeo Drive — which is currently unveiling his spring 2024 capsule collaboration with Pharrell Williams. And Thursday night was his moment to celebrate.
“It’s hot,” said the rapper — a multihyphenate talent as producer, director and designer (behind Golf Wang and Golf le Fleur) — as he squeezed between friends. The temperature was high in the store, which was filled with close-knit supporters, many of whom shopped the line as the DJ played throwbacks and hors d’oeuvres were passed around. While Williams was missing in action, among those out were Barry Keoghan, Donald Glover, Steven Yeun, Jarred Vanderbilt, Peso Pluma, Law Roach, Paul W. Downs and Jaden Smith. Most posed by the raised photo op, which showcased the $18,800 chess box. (“My favorite thing I’ve made,” Tyler, the Creator wrote on Instagram of the collectible.)
“I’ve got the belt,” Smith told a salesperson, holding his buckle, as he eyed a display case of accessories with rows of belts and wallets. To his right, through the glass window, young fans stood outside holding up camera phones. He waved as they waved back.
Inside, front and center stood the real star of the moment: a massive sculpture of an Airedale terrier donning a Louis Vuitton tag. It’s the type of pet Tyler, the Creator would get if he wasn’t allergic to dogs — the breed is an ongoing fascination, with its shape and motif found throughout the collection.
Golf, too, is a love; influences of the sport are seen in the line, which fuses his world of playful pastels with the Louis Vuitton DNA. Pieces include an aviator jacket with colorful monogram fleece collar, a baby blue cable knit sweater, a preppy cotton-blend cardigan, chocolate brown chico pants, various tailored suits — including wool jackets and matching shorts — and accessories that range from a reversible bucket hats and leather charms to slides and sneakers.
At its core, it’s the Tyler, the Creator uniform.
