Ah, lip gloss, a girl’s best friend. No matter how much you shell out on a tube, it can go horribly wrong, (i.e. hair-trapping stickiness and gunky thickness), or oh-so right. The Nyx Butter Lip Gloss is the best of the best, as it infuses the lips with heavenly hydration and glides on in a super smooth feel — and also costs less than your morning coffee. Here’s our comprehensive review on the bestselling lip gloss that’s been the star of my lip product rotation for as long as I can remember.
Most of us are guilty of popping into the drugstore to pick up necessities, only to find yourself dropping a stray lip gloss or two into your basket as a little treat along the way. That’s exactly how I met the Nyx Butter Gloss, which, little did I know, is the number one bestselling lip gloss on Amazon with a massive cult-following.
The sumptuous name caught my attention at first sight, and before I knew it, I had collected a large fraction of the 32-shade selection in a short period of time — all of which are sprinkled in my everyday handbags as a non-negotiable must-have. Over 77,000 Amazon reviewers deem the gloss a “holy grail,” not only for the no-brainer price point, but for its incredibly luscious formula that leaves lips smoother, softer, and “deliciously glossy.”
One tester wrote, “I used to wear lipstick all the time but started to find it tedious. I took a gamble on this product and let me tell you, I don’t regret it one bit! I LOVE this stuff. It’s not sticky and lasts a substantial amount of time. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to lipstick (or try any other type of gloss for that matter). The ‘Tiramisu’ shade shows more pinky-brown on me and it’s the perfect shade if you want something more than neutral, but not overbearing.” Another raved, “I am obsessed. Obsessed! I’ve never felt this way about a lip gloss before. I think I might really be in love. I have to reapply after I eat, but in general, it holds up well and looks absolutely gorgeous. Amazing price, too.”
Read on to discover why everyone and their mother is hooked on this wallet-friendly gloss, which also happens to be at an even lower price in select shades during Amazon’s Big Spring Beauty Sale.

- Editor testing review notes: “Honestly, it’s hard to muster a negative note to say about this product. It’s everything a lip gloss should be: Comfortable, hydrating, and shiny. As the name suggests, it applies as smooth as butter, and I find my lips are softer than they started after the gloss wears off. It has a slight vanilla fragrance that I enjoy and don’t find to be sickly-sweet. It doesn’t bleed, so I apply it without a mirror more times than not, and look forward to slathering on a second coat after a meal or a few hours of wear time. Plus, you can’t beat the price point or the extensive color selection.”

Nyx Butter Gloss Review — Editor Testing Notes
My lips have a tendency to chap super easily, so I always keep a lip oil or balm nearby for when my pout is in need of a little TLC. In my world, the Nyx Butter Gloss exists in those same categories, as it infuses deep moisture with a high-shine finish. While it’s no stand-in for a rich lip mask, it serves as a perfect middle-ground product you can throw in your bag and apply in a pinch for lasting hydration and a wash of color.
Upon application, the gloss effortlessly glides across the lips with an ultra-creamy feel. One dip in the tube is just enough for a healthy swipe across both lips, though you can easily build the color for more opaque payoff. It offers plenty of pigment on its own, which is usually how I wear it, and also performs well teamed with a lip liner or topped over a lipstick for added dimension. Its lasting power is similar to what you’d expect from a typical lip gloss, so after a meal or about two hours of wear, it does require a reapplication.
The formula does not slip or slide outside of my lip line, no matter how many times I press my lips together and bodes well as an ideal on-the-go gloss you don’t need a mirror to precisely apply. The compact, color-coded packaging earns the Nyx Butter Gloss another bonus point. For those of us who keep a rainbow of lip products on hand, the matching packaging makes it easy to spot the exact shade you’re craving. And, considering its low price point, once you’re hooked on the formula, you can collect dozens of hues to suit your glam mood of the moment, from rich reds to nude pinks and even trusty, high-shine translucent gloss.
